Reid Sheftall, M.D. received a physics degree from M.I.T. in 1978 and became a member of the University of Southern California faculty at age 21. After a two-year stint as a card counter in Reno and Las Vegas, he moved on to medical school, surgery residency, and a fellowship in pediatric burn reconstruction.
Dr. Sheftall founded the charity Operation Kids in 2001 to provide free surgery for burned and disfigured children of the developing world.
Four years later Sheftall began playing game of golf again after a 28 year layoff from the game. Over Christmas break a some months later, he was discovered pitching balls at the TPC Sawgrass in Florida by Paul Azinger and PGA Tour pros Mark McCumber who recognized his talent and encouraged him to play more. Less than a year after that, Sheftall earned a player's card on the Malaysian PGA Tour and has played professional golf successfully since that time.
